Campaign Issues

Green Energy

Green Energy

Renewable energy means lower energy bills and less pollution.

We need to move away from our obsession with coal and gas: they pollute our air, cause climate change and need to stay in the ground. Dirty energy is already too expensive and will only get more expensive as fossil fuels become more scarce. Nuclear is an overpriced, too-little-too-late solution. Investing in local renewables will keep money in our economy, create jobs and reduce pollution.

Housing

Housing

We need good-quality homes in the right places.

We need well-insulated warm homes for the elderly, and starter homes and flats to help young people get on the housing ladder. We can recondition disused buildings, demolish what’s dilapidated and poorly designed, and build on brownfield. We will work with responsible developers and local communities to produce quality well-designed homes that reduce the cost of living while improving quality of life.

Transport

Transport

We need fast, cheap, clean ways of getting around.

There is no part of our transport network that is not failing. Our roads are congested. Our walking and cycling routes are underfunded and unsafe. Our public transport is over-priced, over-complicated and slow. Privatisation of public transport has completely failed to deliver on its promises. If we’re serious about tackling congestion, we need to take control of public transport and improve it.

Education

Education

Helping people to fulfil their potential and have impact.

Education should be free to anyone that wants it. Successive generations have been let down by every other political party. Our economy is built on high-skilled industries, so we have to make sure everyone has access to the learning they need to create prosperity, and have an impact on the world.

Trade and Investment

Trade and Investment

We need to play to our strengths.

We are globally significant players in four key sectors: advanced engineering, high-tech, creative & digital, and low carbon technology. We have to support these sectors and share the prosperity they create with the region and the world.

Europe

Europe

Fighting every step of the way.

Our prosperity is built on international cooperation and mutual respect. We are for prosperity, openness, human decency, and free movement. We will fight to protect the rights of businesses, employees, consumers, and migrants. Everyone who lives here should have a right to remain here. The government’s unmandated hard-Brexit plan will strip staff from our NHS and care sectors, destroy our farming and agriculture, damage our exports and investment opportunities, box-in our young people, and diminish our standing in the world. We pledge to fight it every step of the way.
